Parham Camping Ground
ABOUT US
The Parham Camping Ground is managed and operated by The Mallala & Districts Lions Club in cooperation with the Parham and District Action Group . All profits are returned to the community.
The Parham Camping ground provides a different alternative to camping. The campground is located at the northern end of the township of Parham. It is a great place to overnight when travelling to and from Adelaide along the Port Wakefield Highway, or to spend a few days holidaying in the area, enjoying opportunities to rake for blue crabs, observe the fantastic sunsets, and meet up with the local community. It forms a good base for day trips to the Barossa or Clare Valleys, or to observe events at the Mallala Raceway, or to take in the rural attractions of the Adelaide Plains. We are approximately 60 kms from Adelaide and 10Km from Dublin.
Parham is a small coastal township with a population of approximately 250 people. It is well known as “Port Parham” in recognition of its long history as a coastal port from the 1870’s to the 1940’s during which thousands of tonnes of grain, wool, timber, and shellgrit was shipped using flat bottomed ketches. More information about the history of the area can be found at the interpretative centre on entry to the township. Port Parham is also famous for the unique “Parham Jinker”, a locally invented machine used for launching and retrieving boats in the shallow Gulf St Vincent waters. The coast in this area is also unique in that the rise and fall of tides is over in excess of 1 km of mudflats and it is one of only 2 locations in the world which experiences the phenomenon of “dodge tides” where the neap tide does not move for over 24 hours.
The Port Parham Sports and Social Club is open on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings with bar facilities and meals available. Other services are available in the nearby township of Dublin including a General Store/Café/Post Office, Roadhouse/fuel station, Butcher, Green Grocer, Café, Hotel, laundromat, and car sales yard.
